Boost your immune system and beat colds & flus

Perth's rainy days and frosty nights means cold and flu season has well and truly arrived.

That's why it's vital to boost your immune system now, and avoid the set backs of runny noses, chesty coughs, stuffy heads and all the other fun stuff!

Naturopathically speaking, many factors increase your risk of getting a cold and flu, but the following are the most common causes we've repeatedly seen with customers.

Most common causes of colds and flus

1. A diet full of refined processed foodse.g. white bread, white rice, white pasta, alcohol, caffeine and sugar.

2. Lack of sleep - this prevents the body from being completely recharged by the morning.

3. Extremely high stress levels, combined with a lack of exercise or relaxation to encourage breathing and recovery.

4. Exposure to the cold with inadequate warmth from foods and clothes.

5. The body is ready for a detox - it has accumulated so many wastes that it's now ready for a good clean out, and a cold certainly encourages this.

Let's boost your immune system

Olive Leaf
There are many super powerful immune supplements available today, but an absolute and highly effective favourite is Olive Leaf. Olive Leaf has antiviral and antibacterial properties and may reduce the symptoms of sore throats, cough & mucous congestion. It's available instore in the following forms:

1. Liquid
Star Boosters Olive Leaf Extract is super strength, so you only need 3ml daily as opposed to 15ml of other brands. It's not the best tasting tonic in the world, but it is highly effective, and can be disguised in some apple or blackcurrant juice. On average, cold and flu symptoms either disappear or at least dramatically improve in only 2 - 3 days!

We also have a Children's Olive Leaf Extract available in a delicious berry flavour, which will give kids an immune boost without the bitterness. It's also sugar and alcohol free. YUM-EEE!

2. Capsules
More convenient and better tasting, Nature's Care Olive Leaf 3000 provides 50mg of the principle active, Oleuropein in each capsule. 1 - 2 capsules per day is fine as a maintenance dose, but this can be increased to 5 - 6 capsules daily if you have a cold or flu.

Echinacea
Modern research has shown Echinacea to exert significant effects on immune function in over 300 scientific investigations. Echinacea is thought to support the immune system by activating white blood cells and also increasing production of interferon, an important factor in fighting viral infections.

Thompson's Echinacea 3100 is a one-a-day capsule, which may offer:
Relief of the symptoms of colds
Reduced severity and duration of colds
Assistance in the management of upper respiratory infections
Enhanced/boosted immune system

Vitamin C
The traditional immune booster, Vitamin C is an important nutritional antioxidant and therefore assists in protecting the body from the damaging affects of free radicals. It plays a role in many vital immune mechanisms, boosting the immune system by enhancing the activity of the white blood cells and antibody response.

Nature's Care Vitamin C 500mg is useful for vitamin C supplementation to assist in the maintenance or improvement of general wellbeing.

Garlic + C & Horseradish
Nature's Own's Triple Strength Garlic + C, Horseradish should be a staple natural health product in any vitamin cabinet! This particular formula contains the concentrated therapeutic power of four natural herbs plus vitamin C for the relief of hayfever, allergies and cold symptoms. It's also effective in relieving mucous congestion and can support the body's immune system.

Benefits include:
Helps relieve sinusitis, hayfever and flu symptoms
Useful for runny noses, stuffy congestion, sneezing and watery eyes
Helps eliminate excess mucous and sooth inflamed sinuses
Won't cause drowsiness

Remember to bring in your newsletter for some great prices on the above products, while stocks last!

Joint pain relief or your money back*...

Factors to consider when buying a glucosamine supplement for joint pain relief

1. Is it a powder, tablet or capsule?

If you’re over 24 years of age, you will have less digestive enzymes in your stomach. This affects your body’s ability to effectively absorb nutrients. Glucosamine in a tablet form is very difficult to absorb (especially for the elderly who usually need it the most). Powders however, completely eliminate absorption difficulties, increasing the effectiveness of glucosamine.

2. Does the glucosamine supplement also contain MSM?

This is probably the single most important factor that will improve the effectiveness of a glucosamine supplement. MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is only available in a powder form in Australia – not in a capsule or tablet. MSM (a natural form of sulphur) is responsible for increasing the thickness of the synovial fluid, which is found in places such as your knees, hips, spine and shoulder. If you have any discomfort in any of these joints, you will get better results from GMC Joint and Muscle Care than from a glucosamine tablet or capsule, which doesn’t contain MSM. The MSM thickens the synovial fluid, making it more capable of lubricating the joints and working as a shock absorber.

3. Does it contain Malic Acid?

Malic acid is an amazing ingredient in 2 ways:

a) It increases your digestive enzymes – I believe this is the main reason for
the amazing results with GMC, as it improves the digestion of proteins. Naturopathically speaking, if proteins are only partially broken down (digested) in the stomach (due to lack of enzymes), they enter the intestine as large molecules. Many people have disturbances in their intestinal flora (leaky gut syndrome), which means proteins can leak through the walls of the intestine, travel into the bloodstream and lodge in the joints. The body then attacks these foreign particles, causing inflammation and joint pain. So improving your stomach enzymes with malic acid can lead to reduced discomfort in joints.

b) It increases energy in muscle cells – this is good for the likes of anyone
with tired, weak muscles, athletes, and for a condition called fibromyalgia.

4. Is it copper free?
Most glucosamine supplements contain copper to reduce inflammation. In WA however, the majority of people have copper toxicity due to our water pipes. GMC Joint and Muscle Care is copper free.

5. Is it low in sugar?

Don’t take a glucosamine that is full of carbohydrates. The more sugar there is in a product, the more acidity it creates and the more stiffness you will endure. GMC Joint and Muscle Care is sweetened with natural stevia and only has 1.9g of carbohydrates per teaspoon.

6. How much do you need to take per day?

Some powders require you to take six teaspoons per day to get 1500mg of glucosamine. With GMC Joint and Muscle Care, you only need to take 1 – 2 teaspoons per day.
